Helping friends and neighbors in need

On Thursday afternoon, KPC Buddhist Relief delivered 1,232 lbs of produce to The UpCounty Hub. The following morning, all of the 11 varieties of fresh fruit and vegetables were distributed to 246 families at Apple Ridge in Montgomery Village.

The UpCounty Hub's staff reported: "People were already lined up by the time the truck arrived to set up. The need is there and fresh produce from KPC helps us reach the community and help ease the need."

The Hub also reported that, shortly after all the produce was unloaded from the Buddhist Relief van, "a woman came to the Hub after being referred by county programs of the UpCounty Regional Services Center (where the Hub is also located). She was seeking assistance because her electricity has been turned off.

Her electricity bill has been ridiculously high and she recently discovered that due to a broken HVAC unit, the unit was draining power for both the heat and cooling though not functioning. This means her bill is in the thousands of dollars which she simply cannot take care of at this time.

Her son is disabled, and she needed to make sure she could feed her family, though she needed specific items since she could not refrigerate or cook. The UpCounty Hub was able to spring into quick action. Thanks to the generosity of KPC Buddhist Relief, the client was able to shop from the UpCounty Hub Choice Pantry and get some emergency supplies.

The Hub was also able to provide her some gift cards for a local grocery store to purchase other items to support her family. The UpCounty Hub also provided her with information to contact their staff case manager to assist in any way to find some emergency cash assistance from available programs.

There may be hope for this family in this dark time. We hope she can overcome this adversity and get her family stable."

Through your continuing support, KPC Buddhist Relief's compassionate activities such as these, are making a huge impact in the community.

Thank you!
