Combating Food Insecurity

To combat food insecurity, we donate over 1,000 lbs (half a ton) of produce to The Upcounty Hub every single week. That translates to more than 150 grocery bags of fresh, healthy fruits and vegetables that are distributed to friends and neighbors in need.

Recently, we delivered 1232 lbs of beautiful produce to the Hub, including broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers, jalapeno peppers, canteloupes, bananas, oranges, apples, pears and yup, even yuca. We also donated 30 packets of 1-lb ground beef. The Hub was able to distribute that food to 190 families at the Martin Luther King Jr Middle School parking lot.

Hub staff member, Pedro, distributes food in the community several times a week, often interacting with recipients. His gratitude reflects the appreciation he hears from clients when they receive so much fresh, healthy food every single week. Here’s Pedro:

The Hub counts on KPC Buddhist Relief for most of their Friday weekly distribution. We count on you, your generosity and your caring for the community.
