Cold Drink Distribution
The heat wave continues unabated here in Maryland, and on Saturday 6/22 reached a high of 98. A small intrepid band of KPC Buddhist Relief volunteers loaded up over two cases of cold sport drinks and about two 12-packs of water to distribute to local residents who were out in the heat. When we arrived at the Germantown Transit Center, we were happy to see that the bus system had stationed a “cooling bus” there --air conditioned so people could cool off from the heat.
Our team distributed the cold drinks to the people there--mostly young men, a couple of senior men, a few families. It was so hot out there that the tarmac on the parking lot literally melted, getting all over one volunteer’s shoes, not just once but three times!
It is so important to look beyond our own discomfort and provide for the many others who are suffering.
