Buddhist Relief partners with WUMCO Help to relieve food insecurity in Montgomery County, MD

Unlike many food relief organizations, KPC Buddhist Relief doesn't solely distribute non-perishable items; instead, it offers a diverse range of foods and other necessities.

KPC Buddhist Relief purchases fresh produce in bulk from a local wholesaler, specifically to be able to provide fresh fruits and vegetables, recognizing the importance of fresh produce for nutrition. This is in addition to produce grown in our Giving Garden, and fresh eggs provided from our flock of poultry. We also source condiments, sauces, and ethnically sensitive foods allowing the recipients to eat with dignity.

We are able to accomplish this as a result of our model of partnering with direct service providers, like WUMCO Help and others in Montgomery County, MD, including the UpCounty Hub, Shepherd’s Table, the Poolesville Little Free Pantry as well as working directly with groups of refugees from Africa and Afghanistan who need assistance integrating into our community. We have personal relationships with each partner, and specifically provide items they are unable to source via their normal vendors. This has allowed each of our partners to expand their services, and provide for their clients needs more comprehensively.

Operating with an almost exclusively volunteer staff, with minimal administrative costs, allows us to spend nearly every dollar donated on food and other necessities for those experiencing hardship in our community.

Please join us today by becoming a Friend of Buddhist Relief, knowing your donations will provide a better tomorrow for those in need.
