Delivery to First Baptist Church

41 years. That’s how long the food closet at the First Baptist Church of Silver Spring has been in operation, serving the community every week, without fail. Although the food closet is only open 2 hours a day each Saturday, they are able to feed an average of 40 - 50 families each week. Sustaining that effort takes commitment, and that comes in the form of Jim and his wife Sarah, and a small band of volunteers.

KPC Buddhist Relief has been partnering with the First Baptist Church for over a year, providing an average of 500 pounds of food every other week. As we do with all of our partners, we are able to provide the exact types of food and amounts that most benefit the food closet and those who use it. This time, it was a selection of canned proteins (salmon, chicken, ham, nuts, and beans), cheese sticks, shelf stable pantry items (oatmeal, dry beans, potatoes, milk, tortillas, pasta sauce, soups, jam, cold cereal, and cookies), and fresh apples and oranges, all totaling 505 pounds. While we were unloading the bags, we found that they were having difficulty getting specific items, so we will adjust our next delivery to make sure we can fill that need.

Working with other food assistance providers allows us to amplify all of our efforts, reaching those who need it most. If you would like to be a part of this joyful effort, please consider becoming a supporter of Buddhist Relief. Whether you make a one-time or ongoing donation, your generosity is what makes all of this possible.
