Shepherd's Table Delivery - We all need nutritious food to thrive...
On a recent Friday afternoon, Buddhist Relief volunteers Rudy, Shelley and Anne delivered 575 lbs of fresh produce to Shepherd's Table: carrots, onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, cauliflower, apples, and peaches from Kingsbury Orchard. We also brought breakfast goods requested by the chefs such as grits, pancake mix, syrup, coffee, creamer, and sugar.
We had Rob, Mohamed, Nancy and Charlene helping Rudy with the unloading and they were so happy to be taking this food into their storage area. When the peaches came out, Charlene, a former guest and current staff member, picked one up, smiled at Anne and said she thought maybe it was ripe. The last time we saw Charlene, she had shared that she'd never had a fresh peach before and Anne had explained how to tell when they're ripe. Anne felt it and sure enough the peaches were ready to eat. Anne asked her how long she’d waited until she ate her peach from last week and she said, "two days and it was really good."
When talking with Charlene and experiencing her joy around the peach it was such a fun point of connection. Food.
Food makes us happy, feeds us and gives us an opening to being a part of the world and our community.
Buddhist Relief's founder, Jetsunma, teaches us that we must feed others and ourselves nutritious, flavorful food in order to thrive.
Please help us feed those in need.
