Friday Nov. 17th delivery to WUMCO Help Inc.
Our partner WUMCO Help provides many kinds of assistance to those in need-- food, rent, utilities, medical & critical expenses, and much more.
On Friday we made our first large delivery to WUMCO Help.
Our team delivered one case each of mayo, mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper, garlic salt, Italian seasonings, poultry seasoning and cooking oil; 30 lbs each of apples, oranges, bananas, carrots, and onions; 30 five-pound bags of potatoes; 30 bunches of celery, 30 dozen eggs, 30 1-lb. blocks of cheddar cheese, 30 half gallons of milk (some were full gallons), and one case each of canned tuna, canned chicken, and canned ham. Bread and frozen meats were delivered earlier in the week.
WUMCO Help was started over 50 years ago by two dear friends. It grew from giving food and rides to people in need, then providing financial assistance, all from the home of one of the founders. In 2015, WUMCO's offices and pantry moved to Poolesville and is an essential lifeline for many of the people living here who are far from where much of the county assistance programs are.
The executive director, Katie Longbrake, was very grateful for our donation, and is also very moved by what we do in the community - not only providing food, but especially providing a spiritual path. When asked what motivates her to keep going and doing this work, Katie's response was it's the generosity of everyone who contributes to WUMCO's vision that inspires her.
May all beings have food to eat.
