We Care, We Love…
We had another big delivery to the African refugee group this past weekend!
In preparation, 60 bags for distribution were shopped, organized and packed. 30 bags were filled with dry goods such as coffee, tea, sugar, rice, spaghetti, tomato paste, vegetable oil and spices. The remaining 30 bags held 3lbs each of onions, carrots, plantains and one of their favorites, okra. A total of 1334lbs of food were delivered!
Everyone cheered when the Buddhist Relief van arrived, and gratefully received the food, some with tears in their eyes.
We asked Mariama, the community liaison for the group, if they were leaving their countries because of the same political unrest that is found in Senegal. She said for Guinea yes, but she said that “slavery has been called deeply rooted in the northwest country of Mauritania. What is happening in Mauritania is far more terrible than everywhere in Africa. Blacks have no right to education or simple human rights. It breaks my heart.”
It was a reminder for us all that this is what we’re working toward… helping people rebuild their lives so that they have community, safety, food and happiness. Mariama often says, it’s more than food. It’s the gesture of saying ‘We care, we love.’
Through Jetsunma’s example we’re learning that every time we shop, every delivery, every call we muster the courage to make, every positive action and every step out of our comfort zone we take, we are saying ‘we love you’ to those we help.
Thank you to all our generous donors for making this possible
