Keeping the Community Warm
Since Monday, Buddhist Relief has taken to the streets to help people weather the extremely cold temperatures this week! We have been distributing blankets, jackets, sleeping bags, hats, scarfs, gloves, socks, long underwear and hot beverages.
The police are doing a good job of getting people out of the extreme weather, and into shelters, so we headed directly to the shelters to help!
Today we went to Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless. We were able to offer fleece blankets, clothing and warm coats for children.
A volunteer came out to speak with us and shared that their biggest need right now are coats and hats, and children’s shoes and clothing. As they were sharing this, a group of around 20 people of all ages arrived, possibly off a bus, carrying what seemed to be their belongings with them, headed to the shelter - there has been an influx of people needing a warm place to be during this severe weather.
Then we headed to Montgomery County Crisis Center where we were able to offer more blankets and clothes - their biggest need are scarves, coats, and hats. They will accept these donations at any time.
Please help us help them! Jetsunma says “you must have a blanket? I’m SURE you can help.”
We can make a difference - please bring your donations to KPC, or take them directly to these organizations. If you donate monetarily to Buddhist Relief, we are currently purchasing needed items as quickly as we can!
