Every Delivery Is Customized to Our Partner Organizations’ Needs
On Friday, August 9th, the Buddhist Relief team made our fortnightly delivery to the First Baptist Church of Silver Spring. Our delivery reflected changes that the Church pantry managers, Jim and Sara, had requested. We upped our delivery of soup, and added spaghetti sauce to meet their ever-increasing need. Where once they had 45 or so families receiving groceries from them each Saturday morning, now the families number around 50-55.
The intrepid Joanne, the Church’s secretary and general jack of all trades, met us in the underground garage, looking a bit harried as she told us that the church building continues to have water problems, especially given the heavy rains we had been having, and it was coming down into their kitchen area. She begged our pardon as she asked that we forego the full array of photos and video as she had to get back to dealing with their water issue. We commiserated together on the trials posed by an old building.
The delivery was so bountiful, an array of so many different types of foods. Fresh apples and oranges, the much-sought-after soup, canned meats, hot and cold cereals, a stunning variety of black, red, and white beans, jams, treats like mixed nuts and chocolate chip cookies, and so much more.
As you know, each partner delivery is so different: one size does not fit all! While for those we serve through the Baptist Church the demand is for soups, spaghetti sauce, fruit and beans, at our other partner organizations the demand may be for hot green chili peppers and curry leaves, or for a vast array of seasonal produce.
We are so grateful that we have the capability and the committed volunteers to provide food customized to each partner’s unique needs on their schedule, not ours.
Help us help them – join us as a volunteer or provide the financial support that makes hunger a distant memory, and not today’s reality.
