A Source of Inspiration…

On Friday, November 15, Buddhist Relief delivered a little over 500 pounds of food to the First Baptist Church of Silver Spring.

After speaking with Jim Reed, who oversees the food pantry, we were able to tailor the delivery to meet their most immediate needs. While there was less of some items they were able to source elsewhere, we provided a variety of new items that they hadn’t been able to get from any other source.

As we looked ahead to the holiday season, Jim, like many of our partners, shared a growing concern about the rising need for food support in their community. They’ve been seeing record numbers of families seeking help while facing a "double whammy": a decrease in financial donations and the impact of inflation. Donors are giving less as they spend more at the grocery store themselves, leaving the food pantry struggling to meet increased demand.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, Buddhist Relief also made a special holiday turkey delivery on November 25. Jim expressed his deep gratitude for both donations, emphasizing how critical they were during such a challenging time.

He repeatedly shared how Jetsunma’s compassionate work through Buddhist Relief has been a source of inspiration, helping them persevere through difficulties and continue serving their community.
