West African Community
KPC Buddhist Relief has been working closely with the West African refugee community, led by their extraordinary volunteer coordinator, Mariama Sy.
Mariama, a translator and caretaker for seniors and disabled children, tirelessly supports over 300 refugees arriving in Maryland. Her dedication and radiant compassion are truly remarkable.
In January 2024, Mariama reached out for help securing coats and gloves for the community during winter’s coldest weeks.
Since then, we have supported the community with monthly food distributions, baby carriers, clothing, hot meals on cold nights, and even fundraising efforts after one of our dear Senegalese friends had a severe accident.
Over time, this partnership has deepened into a true family connection.
